160 of the trust’s 500 or so volunteers enjoyed a finger
buffet lunch at the Martlets Hall in Burgess Hill and were entertained by
Zigzag, a talented barbershop quartet.
Chief executive Peter Coles thanked the volunteers for the time
and energy they give to the trust and presented certificates to the longer
serving volunteers who were present.
Pride of place went to Audrey Phillips for 45 years service.
Haywards Heath mayor Richard Goddard presented her with a special framed
certificate.
Audrey helps weigh the babies at Hurstpierpoint Health Centre,
which she attends for one day every week.
During nearly five decades, she has helped out in the baby
clinic at a number of different venues including a chapel where, she recalls,
weighing had to be brought to a halt for a funeral service.
Among those who were unable to attend the event and collect
their certificates were Stella Amerena (15 years), Pamela Turner (20 years) and
Grace Snell (30 years).
