Child friendly scrubs featuring cartoon characters have been introduced in a trial in the operating theatres at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital provided by Sunlight, who are also introducing a new controlled method of ordering and issuing the garments. An induction day at the Princess Royal Hospital was held to welcome 21 newly qualified nurses, most trained in Brighton. They will be working in all areas and specialties in the trust.

Thanks for new cardiac bed

Patients in the Sussex County’s coronary care unit, like Jean Taylor pictured here, will benefit from the new state of the art bed purchased with donations made by family friends of Mrs Jackie Shipp in memory of her husband, a former patient on the unit. Seen here with Mrs Shipp who visited the unit to see the new bed are (from left) Andy Masters, Mike Dodkin, sister Catherine Shannon, consultant cardiologist Dr Adam de Belder and Vicky Brill.

Dietary advice … specialist nurses and the diabetes dietitian from the Princess Royal joined the local Diabetes UK group and representatives from pharmaceutical companies at a coffee morning during National Diabetes Week in June. It was held in Haywards Heath’s Clair Hall to help raise awareness of the condition and especially to offer dietary advice to patients. Pictured here demonstrating some of the choice of foods available are Susan May (secretary to the dietitians), diabetes dietitian Jane Roche and specialist nurse Marilyn Yusuf.

Staff celebrate completion of new look Level 4

Principal operating department practitioner Jenny Tremain greets chief executive Peter Coles on his arrival on Level 4 in the Sussex County theatres where staff were celebrating the completion of the upgrading. Level 4 has been given a bright new look with new facilities including secure changing rooms, a seminar room and their own on-call room.

Tony Morris, who organised the event, with helper Deborah Jones preparing the refreshments for the buffet lunch. "Every area of theatres helped by contributing the food for the buffet," Tony said. After lunching with the staff, Peter went upstairs to Level 5 to tour the new theatre area accompanied by theatres co-ordinator Chris Webb.
