However, success depends on being assessed at Level 2 in the
Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts (CNST) and Maternity Services Level 2 in
December.
Jane Urben, who was recently appointed as the new clinical risk
lead midwife, and CNST facilitator Susan Evans are now gathering evidence from
staff to support the assessment. They have to submit this to the assessors at the
end of August.
This will be followed later by a visit to the trust by the
assessors between December 5th and 7th when they will interview some members of
staff.
In 2004, the trust achieved Level 1. This earned a 10 per
discount in premiums to the NHS Litigation Authority (NHSLA) worth about
£450,000.
The NHLSA seeks to support effective reporting and management of
claims, along with the promotion of its standards and the implementation of risk
management procedures and policies aimed at minimising risk.
The assessors assess the trust’s approach to risks relating to
patient care. This covers factors such as consent procedures, management of
health records, infection
control and staff induction and training.
As well as earning discounts on premiums, achieving higher
standards can also have an impact on performance ratings.
