Nurses
challenge professional behaviour
G OOD generals are only as
good as their troops, nursing director Alison Robertson told 35 F and G grade
nurses from across the trust attending the first Challenging Behaviours workshop
at the PRH social club last month.
The aim of the workshop presented by the Practice Development
Group was to equip senior staff with the tools and techniques to challenge
individuals responsible for poor standards of professional practice or
inappropriate behaviours.
Alison talked about the importance of challenging staff whose
standards of care or behaviour falls below the high standards that we expect, reports
Ruth Bailey.
Participants were given opportunity to think about why they
haven’t challenged in the past and were given tips on how to do this
constructively in the future.
Actors from the W@rn
Theatre Group joined the group in the
afternoon, and played out some scenarios of poor practice, giving the group a
chance to test out some of the techniques. The workshop was particularly well
evaluated and will be repeated in the near future.
The day was facilitated by Ruth, Caroline Davies, Roo Wheeler
and Linda Kinsella.

Ready for the challenge:
senior nursing staff at the end of the morning session at last month’s
Challenging Behaviours workshop.
