Smooth start for 'service redesign'

THERE was a smooth start during the first weekend of Best Care, Best Place bed reconfiguration, now known officially as ‘service redesign’.

Trauma and orthopaedic services moved between sites on the 18th and 19th June. Elective orthopaedics moved from Level 8A East at the Sussex County to Albourne Ward at PRH with non elective work transferring 8A East.

During the first weekend only two patients arriving at PRH needed to be transferred to Brighton.

Responding to concerns about the Best Care. Best Place changes, the national director for emergency access, Prof. Sir George Alberti said they were "inevitable, logical and sensible".

Chief executive Peter Coles has asked the managers concerned to thank everyone involved with trauma and orthopaedic transfer.

"I gather that all the equipment was transferred safely between sites," he wrote, "and that the movement of patients and equipment to Level 8 happened smoothly.

Please convey my personal thanks to your teams of staff who made this happen."
