New course
opens door to medical careers
A NEW Access to
Medicine course at
Sussex Downs College welcomes its first students in September.
The one-year course has been
developed in partnership with the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS)
which also receives its first students in September.
It offers an effective way to
gain a qualification that is acceptable for entry into medical school.
The course, the first of its
kind in the South East, is highly suited to nursing or healthcare professionals
or those working in business and management.
It will link successful
students directly on to the five-year medical degree at the BSMS.
Students will attend the Sussex Downs College’s Lewes Campus for the one-year
course. Subjects covered will include biology, chemistry, psychology and
mathematics with complementary studies in related areas.
These provide a comprehensive
science education to underpin any future medical training or career.
On completion of the course
successful applicants will progress to BSMS. They will spend their first two
years at the BSMS before moving to the new Medical Education Centre at the Royal
Sussex County Hospital to undertake clinical placements.
